Twilight Gleaming is a mesmerizing and provocative series of photographic images that reflects on the graphic beauty and powerful symbolism of the American flag.  Long a beacon of unity and democracy, the flag’s symbolism is shifting.  In these images, the flag mutates and twists, morphing into a dance of patterns before dissolving into abstraction. This series aims to explore this disintegration and remind us that the American flag stands for a nation united.

Let’s Talk About the Flag

Over the month of October,  I am holding intimate, salon-type gatherings called Let’s Talk About the Flag with writer and curator Ingrid Periz.  Our goal is to invite engagement and discussion —civil discourse— in response to my photographic series Twilight Gleaming,  which reflects on the beauty and powerful symbolism of the American flag.

In recent years, the flag’s symbolism has shifted and become increasingly divisive, especially since the January 6th attack on the Capitol.  At a time of national polarization and an upcoming election that underscores the fragility of our democracy, we invite you to consider how these images of the flag might represent a nation united.

Let’s Talk about the Flag also informally launches my project, Indivisible, which will continue this fascinating discussion across the country.

We hope you will join us.  These gatherings will take place on Tuesday and Thursday evenings within the context of my current installation at 14 Nassau Street in Princeton, NJ. Email me at robin@robinreschstudio.com if you would like to participate.
